WordPress 4.8 is due to be released today, so let’s take a look at what we can expect.
Media Widgets
First of all, there are some major changes to the way you’ll be using media elements when creating content for your WordPress site. Three new widgets are being debuted for image, audio and video and they’ve been designed to create additional functionality for the Media Library. You’ll now be able to use these widgets to edit and replace images, videos and audio tracks on your site, as well as insert media from URLs.
Gutenberg on the Horizon
While WordPress 4.8 will not see the addition of the new, much-discussed block-based editor, Gutenberg, there is an addition to 4.8 that lays the groundwork for its inclusion in a future release: link boundaries. This new feature makes it easier to navigate and edit links and is likely to become an underrated but useful day to day addition.
Dashboard News Widget
WordPress has been about community from day one and this continues even now, fourteen years later. To help keep the community spirit alive in the ever-growing world of WordPress, users will notice a new addition to their Dashboard: a list of Meetups and WordCamps that are taking place in their local area.
