WordPress is a truly global affair, currently available in over sixty languages and counting. Communities across the world are working to translate WordPress into additional languages and now a crowdfunding project is underway to make WordPress available in Irish.
The Kickstarter campaign is running for the next eight days and requires €4000 to translate the core WordPress system, which is comprised of roughly 40,000 words.
The creator of the campaign, Tomás Ó hAodha, opens the project with the following statement on the importance of making WordPress globally available in as many languages as possible:
“For a minority language to thrive, it needs a great community, and the Irish language has such a great community, both online and off. I want give people a fuller Irish language experience when they create and use blogs and other websites using the open-source WordPress content management system.”
Head over to Kickstarter to find out more about the project and to view the rewards on offer to those who pledge. The campaign will run until August 10th.
