Jetpack recently released the latest version of their popular plugin, JetPack 5.5, in preparation for the hotly anticipated release of WordPress 4.9, which is due out on November 14th.
The focus on this release was to ensure compatibility with WordPress 4.9, so a number of changes have been made to make sure everything performs seamlessly come November 14th. Changes include:
– CSS syntax highlighting will now be handled by WordPress, as there’s no longer a need for Jetpack’s Custom CSS module
– The Jetpack Gallery Widget is also being removed as WordPress 4.9 will contain its own version. Jetpack have noted that when users update to WordPress 4.9 their Jetpack Gallery Widgets will automatically be migrated to the new WordPress feature
Jetpack also had the following to say about compatibility and consistency:
“You shouldn’t see any major changes to your Jetpack widgets with the migration. However, if you use plugins that enable additional widget settings (not provided as part of Jetpack), you could lose these settings due to the way those plugins store the data. You can avoid this by using a new Jetpack filter to force the legacy code to load and then migrate your settings to 4.9 manually.”
Jetpack 5.5 is available now. Find out more about the release on the Jetpack website or head over the WordPress Plugin Repository to download the plugin for yourself.
