It’s time to dust off your running shoes, the annual Worldwide WordPress 5k is back.
We all know how difficult it can be to disengage from work and find time to exercise, which is why joining in with an event like the WordPress 5k is a great way to kick start the formation of a healthy new habit. Plus, it’s fun!
Whether you jog at a snail’s pace (guilty) or are a seasoned pro, all WordPress users, developers, designers and enthusiasts are encouraged to take part in Automattic’s yearly event. This time it’s taking place between September 19th – 25th, so all you need to do is head down to your local park/gym/treadmill and pound the ground for 5km – that’s it.
So what exactly is a 5k? As Automattic explained in their recent blog post:
A 5k run/walk is approximately 3.1 miles long. That is roughly equal to:
-
Twelve laps around a track.
-
Approximately 6,000-7,500 steps.
-
Approximately 50-60 minutes of brisk walking.
Participants are encouraged to share their progress using the #WWWP5K hashtag on social media or by posting an entry on their WordPress.com site and tagging it with WWWP5K. Whether you walk, run or skip, we wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing how you get on. And we won’t be slacking either, we’ll be joining you too – promise!
