Eagle-eyed visitors to WordPress.org might have noticed a new announcement from Aaron Jorbin go live last week but, just in case you missed it, we’re sharing all the details today.
WordPress is known for being a community project and it wouldn’t be the huge success it is today without the hundreds of passionate volunteers who dedicate time and expertise to deliver updates, plugins, themes and guides to all things WordPress. There are regular calls for volunteers who want to be involved with upcoming projects or beta test new releases but this latest request is particularly exciting. Ever wanted to work as a release lead for WordPress? Now’s your chance.
Looking ahead to 2017, WordPress.org has put out a request for people who are interested in volunteering as a release lead for one of the WordPress versions that’s planned for the next calendar year. In the announcement it’s stressed that you don’t need to be a developer but it is recommended that you have previous experience contributing to WordPress.
The voluntary role is described as being a blend of product manager, project manager, engineering manager and release manager, so it’s no easy feat but would certainly be an exciting, rewarding opportunity for the right person.
