One of our favourite things about the WordPress community is the hugely diverse range of incredible events that take place each year. Local meet ups happen all over the globe but the biggest of these must be the annual WordCamp Europe conference, with well over 1000 expected attendees (827 attendees have registered at the time of writing).
AWESEM has been present at all WordCamp Europe conferences (in Sofia last year and Leiden the year before) and we are pleased to announce we’ll be back at this year’s event. WordCamp Europe is a fantastic opportunity for our team to spend time together outside of work, it’s great for networking and there is a lot to learn from all the talks.
This year’s WordCamp Europe is taking place in the beautiful Spanish city of Seville from June 26th until the 28th. We’re guilty of thinking this every year but this year’s event really does look like it’s going to be bigger and better than ever!
The calibre of the keynote speakers is incredible, with over 40 WordPress giants slated to appear at the three day conference. Matt Mullenweg and Drew Jaynes are just two of the names that are sure to draw huge crowds, with many other speakers firmly etched onto our ‘must see’ list. Other exciting names include WooThemes coder, Bryce Adams, and 10up’s Director of Platform Experience, Helen Hou-Sandí.
Remember that it’s totally up to you how you want to spend your time at WordCamp Europe. If you’d rather spend your time meeting other members of the community then there’s no pressure to spend all day every day attending panels…although, with this year’s schedule it will be tough not to!
The scheduled talks and workshops cover such a huge array of topics that there’s just as much planned for WordPress newcomers as there is for old hats. Whether you’re a developer, a designer or a blogger, there’s sure to be something to whet your appetite.
Just a couple of talks that have particularly grabbed our attention are:
•Your Customers are Actual People (Thijs de Valk)
•Ethics and WordPress Development (Mark Jaquith)
•Building Privacy-Friendly Websites (Amelia Andersdotter and Anders Jensen-Urstad)
•From Commercial Themes to the Fastest Growing eCommerce Platform Online (Mark Forrester)
•The Next Big Thing in the Cloud: Containerize Your WordPress (Tenko Nikolov)
As always, we love meeting other members of the WordPress community so do get in touch if you’d like to talk to us at WordCamp Europe Seville. We’ll be there for the duration of the conference, so we hope to see as many of you as possible!
If you haven’t bought your ticket yet then head over to the official WordCamp Europe site to order yours today, and keep up with all the latest news on their Twitter account, @WCEurope.
