WordPress 4.9.6 is set to be the last WordPress release before the introduction of the GDPR on May 25th so, as you’d expect, privacy features are taking centre stage in this latest version.
Scheduled for release next week on May 17th, 4.9.6 is currently in beta and is available for testing. You can download the 4.9.6 beta now but, as always, we advise running this on a test site rather than a live site, as it’s likely there are still some bugs remaining.
A number of new privacy features have been added to 4.9.6, including the following:
- Settings screen for creating a privacy policy
- Default text added for a privacy policy
- Privacy Policy page design
- Privacy Policy link to theme footers
- A method for confirmation of requests for deleting or anonymising personal data
The features listed above are just a few of the new GDPR compliancy features WordPress is hoping to debut to make life easier for businesses who use WordPress for their websites.
