The WordPress core team recently ran a survey about users’ experiences with the WordPress Editor and asked WordPress developers and users to weigh in with their thoughts about a range of questions focused around the WordPress Editor. Over 2500 users responded and the results were shared on the Make WordPress Core blog. There were some really interesting insights that came out of the survey, so we wanted to share some of the highlights in today’s post.
As you can see from the graphic above, a whopping 89% of respondents use the Editor at least once a week, with almost 90% using it at least once a month.
We were surprised to see such a high percentage (75.9%) don’t use the distraction free writing mode option when creating content for their WordPress sites. As over 1500 of those who responded to the surveys are bloggers and content is likely part of their daily WordPress activity, we thought the use of distraction-free mode would be much higher.
The survey went on to ask respondents if they’ve ever installed a plugin to add additional features to the Editor; 1855 responded ‘yes’, 708 responded ‘no’. Those who added plugins were then asked which features the plugins added to the Editor, with the most popular features listed in the graphic below:
Judging by the results above, we could see additional shortcode, TinyMCE and table functionality being added to the Editor in future WordPress updates.
