As the first quarter of 2019 draws to a close, there’s great news to celebrate from the world of WordPress. WordPress now officially powers over one third of the top ten million websites on the web!
This time a year ago WordPress was behind 29.9% of websites and now the CMS is powering 33.4%, which is massive growth in a single year. To give this growth more context: in 2005 WordPress saw 50,000 downloads and now, in 2019, the latest version has seen over 14,000,000 downloads in less than a month.
The core team are unsurprisingly thrilled with this news and shared the following celebratory message in their announcement post:
